Project description:

UAB “Utenos šilumos tinklai” is an energy supplier in the eastern Lithuania and is operating several hot water boilers and steam boilers on the premises of UAB “Utenos šilumos tinklai”. At this site, a total of 9 boilers are operated for the production of thermal and electrical energy (biomass and gas boiler plants). A biomass-fired super-heated steam boiler with a steam turbine was planned, supplied and put in operation by Polytechnik Luft- und Feuerungstechnik GmbH in 2011/2012. The supplied plant serves as the load boiler. The purpose of the biomass heating plant is the generation of electricity and heat, working with overheated steam as the operating medium according to the principle of cogeneration (CHP). In general, the biomass cogeneration plant consists of a high-pressure steam boiler with an output of 10.7 MWth as well as a steam turbine with a max. output of 2.55 MWel, and a steam condenser with a max. heat output of up to 8.2 MWth, which can be decoupled. Additionally, a flue gas condensation system is installed at the site so a total plant efficiency of 102% is reached. The electricity produced by the steam turbine is fed into the power grid of the city of Utena, the simultaneously produced heat is supplied to the district heating system of UAB “Utenos šilumos tinklai”.
