Echtle

Boiler output: 4,850 kWth (800 kWel)

Combustion system: hydraulic reciprocating step grate

Fuel: forest wood chips, bark, sawdust

Year of construction: 2006

Location: Germany

Project description:

“The Echle sawmill has been specialising in the harvest and the processing of fir and spruce strong timber for more than two decades. The harvest of approx. 45,000 cubic meters per year produces high volumes of bark, wood shavings and sawing residues, which can be used for energy generation in the biomass cogeneration plant.

The cogeneration plant has a rated thermal input of 5.2 MW and produces 0.8 MW of electrical energy. At 8,000 operating hours, this results in an input of 7,200 MWeh per year. Additionally, 3.8 MW heat are decoupled, which corresponds to around 30,000 MWh per year. This heat is used for the drying chambers, the production hall and residential buildings.

For the continuous operation of 8,000 operating hours, the plant requires approximately 16,000 t/a of fuel with a max. water content of 60%. The generated sawmill residues as well as green waste are used.”
