KPG Hennigsdorf

Boiler output: 12,000 kWth (2,175 kWel)

Combustion system: hydraulic reciprocating step grate (countercurrent, 2 vaults)

Fuel: wood chips

Year of construction: 2008/2009

Location: Germany

Project description:

“The KPG Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft, a subsidiary of the Stadtwerke Hennigsdorf, invested in the construction of this plant. The biomass cogeneration plant in Hennigsdorf has a thermal output of 12,000 kW and produces 2,175 kW electrical energy via an ORC module. It thus produces around 68,000 MWh of heat and approximately 15,000 MWh of electricity annually. This electricity is fed into the public grid.

The push grate firing uses renewable resources as fuel. The wood chips, for example, are sourced from branches and twigs, which remain after timber production and would otherwise stay in the forest.”
