Project description:

The biomass cogeneration plant of Tiroler Wasserkraft AG in Längenfeld not only supplies the adjacent Aqua-Dome wellness area with environmentally friendly heat from biomass but also a 15 km long district heating system.

The plant uses a 6.5 MW push grate firing plant with a thermal oil boiler as well as a 4 MW push grate firing with a hot water boiler. The thermal oil boiler produces 1.1 MW electrical energy by means of the ORC process, which is fed into the power grid. The fuel required for the firing plant (approx. 70,000 bulk m³/year) is supplied by a cooperative which was only founded for this purpose and the Tyrolean sawmill industry. The fuel mix for the cogeneration plant consists of one third bark, one third wood chips and one third sawdust.
