RESEARCH IN WEISSENBACH

Part of our sustained success is based on the constant improvement of existing products by means of ongoing major research projects and the cooperation with, amongst others, the Technical Universities of Graz, Vienna and Munich as well as the Austrian Research Institute in Vienna/Institute for Eco-Technology.

The result is a technology which generates emissions far below the legal limits, increases efficiency and thus allows for an almost unlimited application of biomass combustion.

RESEARCH FACILITY

In order to efficiently conduct our research and development, one of the most advanced test facilities for biomass fuel is located at our Weissenbach site.

The test facility simulates every possible kind of customers’ requirements (as for example full/partial load behaviours, change speeds for load changes).

The test facility simulates every possible kind of customers’ requirements (as for example full/partial load behaviours, change speeds for load changes).

The construction of its own test facility in 2009 marked another milestone on Polytechnik’s way to become the industry’s technological leader. The facility is prototypical for the design of the complete range of Polytechnik boiler plants within the performance range from 500 kW to 30 MW.

In the research unit, we simulate all of our customers’ requirements before the construction of a new, customised large-scale plant is initiated. Instead of in a product catalogue, our customers can experience the plant’s performance in real-time operation.

Besides new biomass fuels, which are examined for calorific value, ash content, water content and their emission behaviour, also plant-specific prototypes can be tested.

FUTURE PLANT TECHNOLOGIES

The efficient use of available, environmentally-safe and renewable resources is one of the greatest challenges of the future. Biogenic residues from agriculture and forestry are of significant importance for decentralized energy production and as they serve as raw material and energy carriers for the industry and agriculture. We are researching and developing technologies for the future! Biogenic residues from agriculture and forestry are of significant importance for decentralized energy production and as they serve as raw material and energy carriers for the industry and agriculture.

Among others, our core research programme deals with the following research topics:

N

low emission gasification technology

N

ficient thermal use of agrarian residues i.e. straw

N

storability and usability of CO2

N

the process of production of biological carbon and its applicability in the pharmaceutical industry, animal feed industry and for soil improvement.

THINK LOCAL, ACT GLOBAL

We know from our test series that heat can be produced efficiently also for instance from peat or coop bedding. This gives us great flexibility as biogenic raw materials are available in every corner of the earth. They are sustainable and available locally. Long transport routes become unnecessary and the international resource dependencies, which still are the root of many political conflicts, are reduced. The Polytechnik biomass model makes it possible to think local but act global.
