Project description:

Ziegler Erden in Plößberg in the Upper Palatinate has been producing earths, substrates and bark products for almost 30 years. In 2004 the company started the production of pellets. Since its expansion in 2007, the manufacturing capacity is 120,000 t annually.

The wood waste which results from the pellet production is burned in this 14,000 kW thermal oil boiler plant. A downstream ORC module produces 2,000 kWel. The raw material supply for the production of the wood pellets and wood briquettes is secured by the adjacent sawmill. The wood shavings which occur here are picked up by own lorries and transferred directly into the production.

The wood shavings are dried by the biomass cogeneration plant’s waste heat. The technical drying leads to a residual moisture of below 10%. This increases the calorific value substantially and decreases the dust pollution during pelletizing process.
